Diamonds were already in his blood. Raised in a family that had worked in the industry for generations, he first studied mineral engineering, expecting to carry that legacy forward through diamond mining and extraction. Meeting his future wife changed the direction.

His search for her ring became an obsession with the art of the engagement ring—how a diamond, its proportions and its setting could hold an entire story. He left the program to follow that conviction and began pursuing the craft with complete focus.

That pursuit took him to New York’s Diamond District. Driven by a relentless thirst for knowledge, he sought out jewellers whose techniques had been refined over decades and passed down through generations. As legend has it, he returned to the same street for 30 consecutive days, arriving at 8 a.m. and staying until 8 p.m., asking questions, studying stones and settings, and learning everything he could about creating the perfect ring—with his future wife in mind the entire time.

Those long days taught him that technical mastery was only half of the craft. Through countless conversations with jewellers who had spent decades guiding couples, he learned how personal the creation of an engagement ring truly is: the importance of listening closely, explaining honestly and providing patient, attentive service worthy of the moment and the person behind it.

He brought those skills and principles home to Toronto and founded Jewels of Toronto ten years ago, initially devoting the studio exclusively to engagement rings. That same family heritage, curiosity and one-to-one approach still guides every ring today: each one begins with a person, not a catalogue. The ambition and grandeur of New York City remain part of his creative vision, inspiring bold, distinctive pieces that carry a trace of the city where his engagement-ring journey began.
